The Stephanie Dawn Barragy Award

This award was established by Charles and Jean Cornell to honor the memory of their daughter, who suffered from mental illness. Stephanie fought mental illness for years, until she took her own life just two months after being released from a mental hospital that stated she was no longer a danger to herself. The scholarship is given to a graduating student who has demonstrated compassion, empathy, and insight in working with his/her patients and who will take the time to listen, not only to what is being said but also to what is not being said. The individual will have demonstrated a strong sense of community through actual service.
